The side effects of Pepcid AC include diarrhea, constipation, dizziness and headache. Rare side effects of Pepcid AC include a rapid heartbeat, a slower than usual heartbeat, an irregular heartbeat, easy bleeding, easy bruising, signs that you may have an infection such as a persistent cough, a persistent sore throat and a fever. Other side effects of Pepcid AC include mood changes, mental changes such as hallucinations, depression, confusion or restlessness.

Pepcid AC may give some people a stronger feeling of dizziness especially if taken with alcohol and other certain medicines. For this reason, driving a car or any vehicle is discouraged upon the administration of the drug.

In addition, Pepcid AC also has the potential side effect of seizures, persistent vomiting, nausea, dark urine, severe abdominal pain, severe stomach pain, yellowing of the eyes or skin which is also known as jaundice, and general  bodily malaise.

Elderly patients taking Pepcid AC may experience more sensitivity reacting to its side effects than patients who are younger. Children should not be giving Pepcid AC since the effectiveness and safety in children is to this date, not confirmed.

The symptoms of an allergic reaction include the swelling of the throat, tongue or face, itching of the throat, tongue or face, rashes, trouble breathing and severe dizziness.

Known as the H2 receptor antagonist histamine blocker, Pepcid AC or Famotidine works by making a reduction of the acidity amount in your stomach. This is utilized for the prevention and treatment of heartburn as well as other acidity symptoms in the stomach.

Commonly marketed under the trade names Pepcid and Pepcidine by Johnson & Johnson, Pepcid AC is also a drug utilized for the treatment of intestinal and stomach ulcers. It treats conditions that too much stomach acidity causes like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Do not take this medication if you have allergies to famotidine and other medications similar to this like Axid or nizatidine, Tagamet or cimetidine and Zantac or ranitidine.  If you are currently taking famotidine, you need to avoid taking cimetidine unless your doctor advises you otherwise.

Changes in your lifestyle like the cessation of smoking, taking part in programs for the purpose of reducing stress, making new changes in your diet like avoiding certain spices and caffeine as well as limiting your consumption of alcohol may sometimes increase this medication’s effectiveness.

Certain medical conditions could possibly interact with Pepcid Ac. If you have any medical conditions such as trouble swallowing, liver or kidney diseases, allergies to food, medicine or other substances, you need to inform your doctor.

You also need to be aware that if you are taking nonprescription medicine, dietary supplement, herbal preparation or prescription or if you are breast feeding, are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, your physician should know about it.  This drug has been found in breast milk by mothers who have taken the drug.
